An application must be completed, submitted and processed by our office before benefits can be issued.

Please allow up to 10 days for processing.

Money for meals must be provided until a benefit issuance letter is received from our office.

We can not allow charging of meals.

Meal Applications

Free and Reduced Meal Applications can now be completed on line in our PayschoolsCentral portal. It is fast, simple and secure. Determination of benefits is immediate and a determination letter will be emailed immediately. 

You will just need your students 10 digit Student Number to create an account. You can then use this account to apply annually for meal benefits and or to make online lunch payments.

Our free and reduced meal program not only benefits our families but also reaps benefits for the entire district.  The more students who qualify for free and reduced meals, the more resources our district receives to service our families.  Please take a moment to review the information below to learn more.
If your current household size and gross income falls within the chart provided we ask you to please complete and submit the enclosed Free and Reduced Meal Application.  Applications can be returned to your child’s school at our Administration Building at 101 N. 14th St. Cañon City or mailed to Cañon City Schools Nutrition Services 1030 S. 4th St. Cañon City, Co. 801212

Here are the benefits for families who qualify as well as benefits for the school district: 

  • Students qualifying for free OR reduced meals receive breakfast AND lunch at no charge. 
  • Cañon City Schools will receive more funding to better serve our students. It’s At-Risk funding increases as the number of free and reduced students increases. 
  • Last school year the At-Risk factor contributed over $1.9 million in additional district funding.
  • Once a student is approved, the meal benefits are for the entire school year, regardless of any changes in income or household size. Changes DO NOT need to be reported.
  • Testing and athletic fees can be reduced or completely waived for qualifying students.
  • The higher our free and reduced percentage, the more opportunity  we have to apply for grants to enhance our student programs and services. 
  • It allows us to keep our meal prices low for students who do pay.
  • Last but not least, your family will save money when your student eats at school.

Important meal application and Nutrition Services information for the 2021-2011 School Year:

  • Families are encouraged to apply even if their reduction in income is temporary. Once approved the benefits are for the entire school year.
  • If you qualify this year, your benefits will carry over until October 1, 2022. Please re-apply before that date.
  • If you are new to the district, please complete and return the application as soon as possible so we can process before school starts.
  • Use ONE application for all children in the household. List ALL children on the application.
  • Please sign and complete the application. We can not process incomplete applications.
  • You will be notified by mail of your child's status.
  • Until notification you must provide your child with a lunch or lunch money.
  • Foster children will receive free meals BUT, an application must be submitted before they can receive benefits. 
  • If your current  income does not qualify, you can apply anytime throughout the school year.

Each year Free and Reduced Price Meals are available to families who believe they may qualify. If your family chooses to apply please complete a "Free and Reduced Meal Price Application Form." The forms can be obtained and returned (completed) to any school office.
