2021-2022 School Year Free Meals for All LCSC Students

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved all schools to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students regardless of income. This means Lake Central School Corporation (LCSC) students will receive one breakfast and one lunch daily for FREE this school year.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Students must take the required components to make a reimbursable meal in order for it to be free. How students make a reimbursable meal will be posted in the cafeteria and on the LCSC web site.
  • If students purchase extras (such as a bottled drink) available in the serving line, a la carte (such as a singular milk or entree), the student will need to pay at the point of sale from their food service account. If your student intends to purchase items other than a meal, please make sure there are adequate funds on their food service account.
  • Nothing needs to be sent to the school in order to have a student receive meals for free. Free meals are automatically offered to all students regardless of income.
  • Families that believe they would qualify for free and reduced meals normally should still submit a free meal application as this can help with qualifying for textbook assistance and other assistance programs. The application for the 2021-2022 school year will be available at registration.  All information submitted in these applications is private and confidential.

Five Star Meals

The Food Service Department has over 100 food service professionals anxiously awaiting to serve your student.  The Department serves over 6,000 meals daily.  All employees attend training throughout the year to ensure food safety.  Cafeteria managers and cooks are all ServSafe certified through the National Restaurant Association.

Our meals meet all the USDA nutritional requirements.  Breakfast is designed to supply approximately ¼ of the vitamins, mineral, protein, carbohydrates and fat needed daily for the body.  Lunch is designed to supply approximately 1/3 of the same nutrients.  The nutritional value of the meals is evaluated over a period of days rather than calculated on a single meal or food item.

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions section for additional information on our Free Meal Program.

If you haven’t considered being a Food Service Substitute, please consider looking into it.  You are off when your student is off during school breaks and summer vacation, there are no nights or weekends, and your schedule is flexible.
