WHAT MEALS ARE SERVED AT SCHOOL?

The Food Service Department provides Breakfast and Lunch at all district schools as well as partnering with individual schools for special snacks, sack lunches for field trips and other meals as requested.

Research has shown that good nutrition is critical to student achievement and is an integral part of the education process.

ARE SCHOOL MEALS HEALTHY?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child Nutrition Program sets meal patterns and specific nutrient requirements that our Breakfast and lunch menus must meet. Meals are planned with the goal of providing students with 1/3 of their Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) for key nutrients and calories at Lunch. In keeping with these requirements our menus are computer analyzed to ensure that they meet the guidelines for calories, fat, sodium and other important nutrients.

WHAT IF MY STUDENT IS STILL HUNGRY AFTER THE MEAL?

Portion quantities are determined by the USDA meal patterns by age/grade groups. Quality of food, not quantity is what builds healthy minds and bodies. All schools utilize the “offer vs. serve” system. Students must select 3 of the 5 food groups and one item MUST be either a ½ cup of fruit OR vegetable. This allows students to choose what they would like to eat.

WHAT IF I WANT TO HAVE LUNCH AT SCHOOL WITH MY CHILD?

Parents are always welcome and encouraged to eat with their students in the school cafeteria. Because we plan for the number of students who sign up with their classroom teacher it’s important to call ahead and reserve a school lunch in order to ensure our staff prepares enough food. See meal Prices and contact information provided below.

WHERE CAN I FIND A FREE OR REDUCED PRICE MEAL APPLICATION?

Applications for free or reduced price meals are available at all schools' main offices and here. All families wishing to be considered or free or reduced price meals must complete a new application each school year. New for 2015-16 families can complete an application online!
