A Note to Parents

A Note from the Office of Coordinated School Health:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are excited to be beginning the 2020 - 2021 school year and look forward to celebrating academic successes in Union City Schools. In order for your child to succeed to their highest potential, we are encouraging you to help your child make healthy choices. It is very important that your child eats breakfast daily. This helps reduce stomachaches, headaches and energizes the brain so he/she is ready to learn when they arrive at school. Please see that your child receives adequate sleep at night as well.   Children ages 6 – 12 need ten to eleven hours; teens need 9 to 9 ½ hours.

On occasion, parents are asked to bring food for snacks and parties. We are asking that you please provide healthy food selections for your child's class. If your child brings a daily snack to school, we encourage you to send a healthy snack. Please note the healthy snack list and party ideas on this website.

Physical activity is very important in your child's daily routine. It is recommended, that children receive sixty minutes of physical activity a day. Please encourage your child to be physically active and reduce screen time in the afternoons.

Children who are taught at an early age to make healthy lifestyle choices decrease their risk of obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. Coordinated School Health is committed to child and adolescent school health initiatives that improve health outcomes and academic achievement. We look forward to a great year!
