The Mission of the Grand Island Public Schools Nutrition Services Department is to provide the students and staff of the district with high quality service along with appealing, safe, nutritious meals that will enhance the learning process and well-being of our students.

The vision of the Grand Island Public Schools Nutrition Services Department is that all students will be knowledgeable of the importance of good nutrition habits and incorporate these habits into everyday food choices to enhance the mind and body for optimal physical health and academic performance.

National School Breakfast & Lunch Program Info: Our meals are planned according to federal guidelines, which cover not only the amount of food offered but also the nutrient content. Our meals are planned and prepared with an emphasis on fresh ingredients, whole grains, a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables to encourage healthy eating. 

What makes a complete breakfast?
-3-4 food groups are offered at breakfast including: bread/grain, meat/protein, fruit/juice and milk.
-At minimum, students must take a total of 3 items from any of these food groups, as long as one item is a fruit/juice.

What makes a complete lunch?
-5 food groups are offered at breakfast including: bread/grain, meat/protein, fruit, vegetable, milk.
-At minimum, students must take a serving from 3 different food groups, one serving being a ½ cup fruit or vegetable.
