Meal Applications

Free and Reduced Price Meals are available to families who believe they may qualify. The HCS on-line Free & Reduced
Meal Application is available at:

A new Free & Reduced Meal Application (1 per household) MUST be submitted every school year. You will be notified by e-mail of your child's status and will be able to print a copy of your determination letter from a link provided.

The information you give will be used to determine or prove your child's eligibility for free or reduced-priced meals. This information may also be used for other state or federally funded school benefits.

Factors considered in the application process are household size and total household income. HOUSEHOLD SIZE is considered all persons, related or unrelated: Including parents, children, grandparents who live in your home and share living expenses. The TOTAL HOUSEHOLD INCOME is the income each household member received last month before taxes - this includes wages, social security, pension, unemployment, welfare, child support, alimony, and any other cash income.

Foster children are categorically eligible for free meal benefits. An application is not needed yet there does need to be documentation of status by a state or local entity familiar with the child's status. Foster children may be included in the household application as part of the household size.

Students attending one of the 17 CEP (Community Eligibility Participation) schools are NOT required to fill out a meal application. All students attending these schools receive free meals. A listing of CEP sites can be found on the HCS website.

The meal status your child was approved for last school year is granted to them at the beginning of this year to allow time for you to submit your new application. Your application must be processed  before October 19, 2020.
If an application is not received by that date, your child will be charged at a full paying status until a new application is received and approved.

If a negative balance is accrued on your child’s cafeteria account and you are then approved for free or reduced meals, you are still responsible for the charges on the account.
