In response to the financial hardship felt nationwide and as a result of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced an extension to its free meals program for all students for the 2021-2022 school year. The program is being offered at no cost to the district.

Student accounts will not be charged for any breakfast or lunch meals that meet the regular meal criteria set forth by the USDA. All students can receive one breakfast and one lunch daily at no cost. A la carte purchases will be charged as usual.

Our Breakfast & Lunch Programs

"Our Mission, as a Child Nutrition Team, is to create a welcoming and respectful environment, to provide a high quality food experience, and to educate our students to make lifelong healthy choices".

In addition, Child Nutrition strives to provide nutritious and appetizing meals and quality service at reasonable prices to every student, every school day.  We realize that learning starts before our students walk into the classroom.  All students must have the right tools in order to achieve to their fullest potential and having the right tools begins with a well-balanced breakfast and lunch everyday.

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. All meals, foods and beverages are prepared and served by qualified child nutrition professionals. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.

The Lakota Local School District's Child Nutrition Department serves approximately 16,500 students at 22 different sites. Unlike some larger districts, all of our schools have full cooking kitchens. This allows us the flexibility to meet the needs of our students and the Lakota community.

We are a unique department in the school system because we are self-supporting. In other words, we receive no funds from the school district. We pay all operating expenses, payroll, benefits, utilities, administrative costs, food and supply costs, equipment and repair costs, technology costs, depreciation, etc.

Our breakfast and lunch programs are operated under the direction of the United States Department of Agriculture, Ohio Department of Education as well as the Butler County Health Department.
