Only complete one application per family. The information you give will be used to determine or prove your child's eligibility for free or reduced-priced meals. This information may also be used for other state or federally funded school benefits.

Factors considered in the application process are household size and total household income. HOUSEHOLD SIZE is considered all persons, related or unrelated: Including parents, children, grandparents who live in your home and share living expenses. The TOTAL HOUSEHOLD INCOME is the income each household member received last month before taxes - this includes wages, social security, pension, unemployment, welfare, child support, alimony, and any other cash income.

Foster children are categorically eligible for free meal benefits. An application is not needed yet there does need to be documentation of status by a state or local entity familiar with the child's status. Foster children may be included in the household application as part of the household size.

Free Meal Program
Children from families whose income is at or below the levels shown on an eligibility scale established by the federal government are eligible for free meals. Applications for free meals will be sent home to all pupils at the beginning of the school year. A new application must be turned in each school year. The information on the application is confidential and will only be used to determine eligibility for meal benefits. Notification indicating eligibility or non-eligibility will be provided within five days after the application has been submitted. If you do not agree with the decision or have questions about your application, please contact the school office. You may also call the Child Nutrition Services office at 668-5764 if you have any questions about the process of applying for free meals.
With these challenging economic times, it has come to our attention that many families may not know that they can apply for the free meal program at any time during the year. If your family income has fallen, you may obtain and application from the school office.
Free Meals—Direct Certification
Households that receive food stamps or CalWorks Benefits may receive a letter stating their children are approved for free lunches based on information received by the food stamp or CalWorks office. Applications do not need to be submitted for children whose names are listed on the letter. If you receive a letter and the name of a child living in the household is not listed, an application must be completed for that child. All newly enrolled pupils need an application submitted, including kindergartners. If you receive a letter and do not want your child(ren) to receive free meals, please contact the Child Nutrition Department. If you have not received a letter by the time school starts, please complete and turn in an application for free or reduced-price meals with the appropriate case number listed.
