What's New

What's New?

More Healthy Changes!!

Dear Families,

The Scotts Valley Unified School District Nutrition Department is meeting new Federal Nutrition Standards for school meals. The Scotts Valley Unified School District Food Service Department believes that students should eat to learn. With this in mind, we want every student to enjoy a well-balanced meal. Your child can now choose from a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, proteins, and whole grain rich foods.

The Scotts Valley Unified School District meal accounting is a pre-paid Meal System.  Parents or guardians must deposit money into their student’s account before meals are served.  Payments can be made using the online system at www.myscholbucks.com, or using the MySchoolBucks App.  In addition, parents can make payments with cash or check.  It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that there is money in their student’s lunch account.  Parents or guardians are responsible for meal payments to the Child Nutrition Service Program.  The school district has a negative balance limit of $10.00.  After that limit has been reached, the student will be given an alternative meal until the balance is paid in full.  Notices of negative balances are sent to parents or guardians once a month.

MySchoolBucks App is an easy way to manage the student’s lunch account.  Parents can make payments, view account balances, meal purchases, schedule automatic payments and sign up for low balance email alerts.  Scotts Valley Unified School District Child Nutrition Services believes that students should eat to learn.  With this in mind the Child Nutrition Services provides an alternative meal.  Those students who have a negative balance, are not allowed to charge or purchase any a-la-carte items.

Alternative Meal- High School and Middle School Alternative Meal List: Grilled Cheese, Peanut Butter and Jelly or Sunbutter and Jelly sandwich, fruit, vegetable and milk.  Elementary School Alternative Meal List: Grilled Cheese or Peanut Butter and Jelly or Sunbutter and Jelly sandwich, salad bar, fruit and milk.  The alternative meal is non-reimbursable, and the meal will be added if there is a food service 'Student Emergency Lunch Account Fund'.  The food service department will use that account to cover the Alternative Meal cost.  The 'Student Emergency Lunch Account Fund' is funded by parent donations.

Evaluate Individual Circumstances: Scotts Valley Unified School District Food and Child Nutrition Department acknowledges the importance for our students to have access to healthy meals during the school day.  With this in mind, the Food and Nutrition Department understands that if there are students who repeatedly come to school without a meal from home, or money to participate in the school meal program, the school administrator should provide information to the parents/guardians of the Free and Reduced School Meal Program.  The Emergency Lunch Account can also be used to cover the cost of the meal of a needy student.  Free and Reduced Meal Applications are available online at www.scottsvalleyusd.org, under the Food Service Department tab, or at each school site office.  For more information about the School Lunch Program, contact the Child Nutrition Department at (831) 430-0683.
