Healthy Habits start at Home

Nutrition is for Everyone

Proper nutrition in the school age years can reinforce lifelong eating habits that contribute to a student's overall well being. This will help them to grow and learn to their fullest potential... and then go on to lead a long healthy life.

Ideally, it's best to build lifelong, healthy habits when you're young versus trying to make changes after there's a nutrition related health problem, like hypertension, diabetes and heart disease has occurred.

"You never hear about children eating too many whole grains, fruit and veggies. We hear about kids eating too much added sugars, highly processed carbohydrates, empty calories, fat and saturated fats." Kristen Feaga, MS.

Hence why the SBP and NSLP have regulations on whole grains, the variety of vegetables available to students, limitations on how much juice is offered, limitations on the percentage of calories from saturated fat, and limits on sodium. We're trying to demonstrate to students proper portioning and healthier eating options while they're at school.
