Welcome to Child Nutrition Services!

Good nutrition and learning go hand in hand. The Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices. Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet states and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.

Exciting News for the 2018-19 School Year!  There have been two changes in school funding in California that are good news for you and your children.

Eighteen schools within Central Unified now qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).  This means that if your child attends one of these qualifying sites your child will receive FREE BREAKFAST* AND LUNCH* only for the 2018-19 school year (regardless of income).    The qualifying CEP schools are as follows: Biola-Pershing Elementary, Harvest Elementary, Houghton-Kearney Elementary, Madison Elementary, McKinley Elementary, Polk Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Saroyan Elementary, Steinbeck Elementary, Teague Elementary, Tilley Elementary, El Capitan Middle School, Glacier Point Middle School, Central High School-East, Central High School-West, Pershing Continuation High School, Pathway Community Day School and C.L.A.S.S.-ATP.  *Free Breakfast and Lunch must be taken as a whole meal, milk for cold lunches and Jr. & High school snack bar items must be purchased as an al a carte item-per State and Federal Guidelines.

With this change, if your child attends one of the above mentioned schools, you will not have to fill out a Free/Reduced meal application; however, please help us get the funding to keep this program in place by completing the School Benefit Form.  This form is only required once every four years.  If you need help completing this form, please feel free to contact our office at (559) 274-4700 ext. 63108

If your child does not attend a qualifying Community Eligible School, you may still qualify for Free/Reduced Lunches.  Remember, Central Unified School District serves Breakfast  to ALL enrolled students for FREE!   In order to see if you qualify, please complete a Free/Reduced Meal Application with all of the required information and turn it into our office, your child's school or the cafeteria.  Once your application is processed you will receive a letter from the Child Nutrition office to inform you if you qualify.
