Nutritious Summer Meals for Children

Provo City School District Summer Child Nutrition Program will begin on June 4, 2012.  The Summer Child Nutrition Program ensures that low-income children continue to grow and learn during the summer.
The Summer Child Nutrition Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is the largest federal resource available for local programs that combine mealtime with recreational and educational activities.
Provo City School District, Superintendent Gentry, and the Child Nutrition Program recognize the need for nutritious meals during the summer.  Our summer meals program is a building block in the community for healthy, happy children who are ready to learn.  Children 18 years and younger may participate in this program and eat breakfast and lunch for free.  The meal must be eaten in the school cafeteria.  Parents may purchase a meal.   Adult meal prices:  $2.00 for breakfast and $3.00 for lunch. Menu may change due to availability of product.
The Summer Child Nutrition Program for children is a federally funded program operated nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by a State Agency.  Summer Programs are located at approved sites that are in low-income areas, or serve a group of children most of whom are low income.  Following is a list of schools and the dates and times they will be serving.  Each school except Timpanogos Elementary will serve Monday through Thursday.  Timpanogos Elementary will serve Monday through Friday.

Provo's Child Nutrition Program Named Best of State for the Third Consecutive Year

Best of State graphic image

The Provo School District Child Nutrition Program was chosen to receive the 2012 Best of State Award for being the top education support personnel group in Utah for the third consecutive year. This statewide award is given to outstanding businesses, programs, groups, or individuals. More than one hundred judges scrutinized the nominations for the Best of State Award. The judges sought out individuals, businesses and organizations that excel in their endeavors, use innovative approaches, and make Utah a better place to live.

Jon M. Huntsman Jr., former Governor of Utah said, "Best of State recognizes those who are excelling and surpassing all else and who are the best of the best in their respective fields."

The Child Nutrition Program is thrilled and honored to win the Best of State award for the third consecutive year. They are constantly trying to enhance the already nutrition and healthy meals served in Provo's Schools, and to continue their yearly themed activities to increase the activity of the students. Studies show that children are better able to learn after eating a nutritious meal, and this dedicated Nutrition team is happy to do their part in helping each student receive an excellent education. Provo School District is extremely proud of the Child Nutrition Program as they strive to continue to promote healthy lifestyles that will have life-long benefits.

This year's "Movin" It" theme has been a big hit so far with the students!  We would like to thank the Child Nutrition Program Professionals, Administrators, and Teachers who have helped to make these days so memorable to the students of Provo City School District. Please enjoy the video below as our Child Nutition Department was featured in this national School Nutrition Association, "Tray Talk" video. We know that delicious and nutritious, prepared from scratch menus, and increased activity of our students go hand in hand to make a healthier generation!
