Welcome to Okeechobee County School Food Service

WE HAVE A NEW MENU FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS!

Effective March 5, 2012, a new menu was introduced to our students that is the first step in the process of moving to full compliance with new Nutrition Standards which will be required effective the first day of the 2012-2013 school year.

We took this step to assure our menus will not only meet requirements for USDA Child Nutrition Programs, but much more importantly that they will meet the needs of our students.

A number of new foods are going to be introduced as time passes, including whole grain pastas and reduced sodium, reduced fat sauces.   New Nutrition Standards set by USDA now limit the number of days per week that 100% Fruit Juice may be served as a "fruit" choice.  That rule required us to limit offering of 6 oz 100% Fruit Juice to twice per week for lunch (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and offering 4 oz 100% Fruit Juice for Breakfast to three days per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).

Additionally, recipes are being revised to address increases in portion size for vegetables. Our students, faculty and staff will begin to notice that several of the vegetables offered, most notably salads and dark green vegetables, gradually increasing in portion size from 1/2 cup per serving to 3/4 cup per serving for both students and adults.

These larger portions for fresh and cooked vegetables as well as our planned move to make 100% of one our grains whole will become more obvious as time passes.  Final implementation of the new Nutrtion Standards are required by first day of the 2012-2013 school year.  By moving toward full compliance with these new rules, and implementing changes to the menus now, by the time next school year begins there should be very few, if any, surprises on our menus.

Our mission is "Serving Excellence - One Meal at a Time."  We intend to continue to hold that as our standard, and will be working diligently to find new student acceptable products that will meet the regulatory changes coming to our program, while continuing to offer the highest quality foods at the best possible price to our students and staff.

Parents are welcome to join their child for lunch!  Contact your child's school for additional information.

Thank you for your support!!
