Wellness Policy

Student Wellness Through Nutrition

Our District has developed a Wellness Policy that is focused on improving the health of students. The policy was developed by the Health and Wellness Advisory Council.

Key Areas of our Wellness Policy Include:

  • Nutrition Meals and Education
  • Physical activity
  • Other school-based activities that are designed to promote student wellness.

Nutritional Goals and Guidelines for Foods Available at School

Nutrition Services is committed to providing nutritious meals that help promote student’s health and well-being. All meals and beverages provided by Nutrition Services will meet the nutritional guidelines set forth by the District’s Wellness Policy.

All District schools serving meals will participate in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs to the maximum extent. All District schools will provide access to free, potable water during meal times in the food service area.

The District’s Board believes that all foods and beverages sold to students at District schools, including those available outside the District's food services program, should support the health curriculum and promote optimal health. Nutritional standards adopted by the District for foods and beverages provided through student stores, vending machines, or other venues shall meet or exceed State and Federal nutritional standards. The Board will also encourage school organizations to use healthy food items or non-food items for fundraising purposes and shall encourage school staff to avoid the use of non-nutritious foods as a reward for students’ academic performance, accomplishments, or classroom behavior.

Compliance Monitoring and Policy Review

Compliance monitoring in the area of nutritious meals served in schools will be monitored throughout the school year and assessed for improvement. Results of the annual monitoring can be found on the Nutrition Services web address listed here by clicking on the link located on the left hand side.
