Dear SCCS Elementary School Students, Parents and Staff;

            As you know, our School District made a commitment this year to begin serving tastier, healthier, and more nutritious meals to our students. We were fortunate to be able to contract with Revolution Foods from Oakland to deliver great, freshly prepared meals to our Elementary Schools for this school year to help us transition to cooking healthy great tasting food ourselves in our kitchens. Beginning February 16, 2010, we will make that transition and we will be cooking a fantastic new menu with local produce in our own kitchens at our schools. I have attached a copy of the new menu for you with this letter and I encourage you to have a look and then come try our tasty new breakfasts and lunches. I created this menu based on months of feedback from the students and surveys in the lunchroom and the classroom, and I will continue to respond to students' ideas, feedback and requests. Our staff has worked tirelessly to create new menu items and test them, while providing great personal service and nutritional education to our students. We are excited to present this new menu to you and welcome your input. I would like to encourage you to look at our new webpage for Food Services on the district website at http://www.sccs.santacruz.k12.ca.us/. Just click on "School Meals" to see the great new interactive tools available including school menus, nutritional information and educational tools. I will be adding recipes and photos, as well as many new interactive tools for parents, teachers and students alike.

            I personally would like to thank Revolution Foods and their Team for partnering with our schools to help improve the health and quality of our food and our students lives here at school, and at home.

            I would also like to encourage you to continue to give us feedback and ideas to continue to improve the quality of our meals. All meals, foods and beverages are prepared and served by qualified child nutrition professionals. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.
