ELEMENTARY HYBRID MEAL SERVICE FAQ

Who is eligible for meals?

Starting March 8th, Group A and Group B students who are on campus will receive meals before they are dismissed. These meals are to be cooked and eaten at home.

How are students getting their meals?

Students will get their meals before leaving for home. Meals will either be delivered directly to students’ classrooms or picked up as students exit through school gates.

How much do meals cost?

For the 2020-2021 school year, meals are provided at no cost to parents/students.

When will meals be given?

GROUP A: On Mondays, students will receive meals for Monday and Tuesday. On Thursdays, students will receive meals for Thursday and Friday. Visit a Grab-and-Go Drive-Thru location on Wed and Fridays (for weekend meals).

GROUP B: On Tuesdays, students will receive meals for Tuesday and Wed. On Fridays, students will receive meals for Friday and the following Monday. Visit a Grab-and-Go Drive-Thru location on Thurs and Fridays (for weekend meals).

What about Distance Learners (aka Group C)?

Distance Learners will need to visit a Grab-and-Go Drive-Thru location to pick up their meals. See “Grab-and-Go Drive-Thru Meal Service FAQ” below for more info.

Will there be a Drive-Thru at elementary schools?

No, there will be no Drive-Thru at elementary schools once Hybrid Learning starts.

Will elementary schools provide meals for siblings or other children?

No, elementary schools will only be providing meals to students who are on campus. Meals for siblings and other children may be picked up at a Grab-and-Go Drive-Thru Location. (See “Grab-and-Go Drive-Thru Meal Service FAQ” below for more info).

What is being served?

Students will receive 2 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches, and 2 Super Snacks in their bags. Menus are posted online. Please note that menus are subject to change, especially as manufacturers experience supply issues.

Will weekend meals be included?

No, weekend meals will NOT be available at elementary schools. Please visit a Grab-and-Go Drive-Thru Location on Fridays to pick up meals for Saturdays and Sundays.

Do students have to take the meals?

Meals are being provided to all students, free of charge. Although it is not required, we highly encourage all students to take their meals.

If a student no longer wants Grab-and-Go meals, parents can email nutrition.services@hesperiausd.org with the student's name and school and request no meals be sent home.

Will Hesperia High, Oak Hills High, and Sultana High provide meals for siblings or other children?

GRAB-AND-GO DRIVE-THRU MEAL SERVICE FAQ

Who is eligible for grab-and-go meals?
All children ages 2 - 18.

When and where will grab-and-go meals be served?
Grab-and-Go meals will be served from 10:30 - 11:30am on Monday – Friday at our Drive-Thru School Locations below. Saturday and Sunday’s meals will be included in Friday's pickup. 

  • Hesperia High School
  • Oak Hills High School
  • Sultana High School

Will Food Bus Stops still be providing meals?
No, Food Bus Stops will stop on April 5th once Hybrid Learning starts at middle and high schools. The last day for Food Bus Stops will be Fri, April 2nd.

How do I get the meals?
As you go through the Drive-Thru line, please provide the number of children.

Do students need to be present in order to pick up the meals?
No, students do not need to be present to pick up meals at our Drive-Thru locations. 

Do we need to have a Student ID Card or Scannable Meal ID Card?
No, not at this time. However, Scannable Meal ID Cards may be required at a later date. 

Do I need to complete a meal application for the 2020-2021 school year?
Yes, students attending any of the following schools are highly encouraged to complete meal applications:

  • Oak Hills High
  • Sultana High
  • Cedar Middle
  • Krystal School
  • Mission Crest Elementary
  • Mesquite Trails Elementary
  • Cypress School of the Arts
  • Hollyvale Innovation Academy

Once on-site learning resumes, a student’s eligibility status may be used during meal service. No-contact meal applications are available online.

Can I walk up instead of drive-thru?
Yes, walk ups are always welcome.

What is being served?
Lunch, Super Snack, and Next Day’s Breakfast will be provided. Menus are available online. Please note that menus are subject to change depending on vendor availability and unforeseen circumstances.
